Love your intro! This was very creative! The doll really puts it into perspective. The first couple of times that I tried to do the video I had my 2 and 3 year olds screaming in the background and I actually considered leaving that in just for the effect. I agree that his proposal was logical, he just used a very graphic way to draw attention to it. Did he really speak in front of people with this? I wondered about the context in which it was delivered.
Kathryn, what a wonderful job of delivering the shock effect. I really liked it! I agree with you about Dr. Jonathan Swift's proposal that it was in fact, a good idea for reform after you realize he was just using dark, humor to get his points across. When I first read the essay I was put off and was disgusted. It was not until the second read that I found he had good suggestions for reform like making, growing their own goods instead of buying from the British. Teaching the poor how to build homes, grow crops and provide for their own families. Like your video post shows how he too caught the attention of his listeners. Thanks.
Kathryn, I enjoyed your introduction to your video, it was very creative. On your thoughts on Swift's essay, I agree with you that it was a sarcastic approach in solving poverty in Ireland. At first, as I was reading the essay I was very confused and thought he was insane for believing that selling children for food to the British would solve the problems the Irish were facing. I realized, as I continued to read, and I even had to re-read the essay that it was a form of satire.
Great job on the video Kathryn! I loved all your props! I think you presented the gist of Swift's proposal very well. He wanted to stun his readers so that they would pay attention to the real points he wanted to make regarding social and economic reform. It was so outrageous that it couldn’t be disregarded.
Thank You for that video, it was cool. Also, I have a different perspective now after watching, that I did not have before. I and some others I see, saw him as a brilliant speaker. He made his listeners think. I guess these people were not as barbaric as first thought.
