What I’m working on
with essay #2. First I wanted to see
what was going on with Herman Melville when he wrote Bartleby, what influenced
him to write this piece. In 1853
Melville had just completed “Moby Dick” and it had not done so well in the
marketplace. Melville’s response to this
disappointment came out when he wrote Bartleby.
Melville was questioning his Christian values and the quality of his
work. Melville wrote Bartleby to express
this frustration. I believe that Herman was asking himself why doesn't society get me. What is wrong with me and Bartleby was the result of his questions. This is what I’m writing
for essay #2.
